Pictures play a huge inspirational role in writing. That’s why websites that focus on inspiring and beuatiful landscapes and portraits have so much traffic. That’s why my most popular blog post to date, Collage of inspiring locations around Izard County for “The Treasure at Devil’s Hole,” was so successful.
But, why are images so profound? For writers, pictures capture a single moment in life, more importantly these pictures mean something different to every person who sees them. When I came across today’s visual writing prompt I was looking for writing inspiration. I needed a building overgrown with vegetation, abandoned, lost, and seemingly forgotten. However, when I saw this picture I saw more than I was looking for. I found several stories ranging from the creepy to romantic bouncing around my head.
Hopefully this image will give you a little inspiration. Are you thinking about an abandoned building where runaways are secreted away? Do you see an old church haunted by a centuries-old nefarious past? Or, can you imagine a young woman intent on rehabbing a forgotten piece of history surrounded by a whimsically magical garden?
I’d love to hear your thoughts about this image and the stories you intend to write.
